The first book I read that really impacted me and was the catalyst for me to change my eating habits was Power Foods for the Brain by Neal Barnard. That must be over 10 years ago. It was right when my aunt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in her mid fifties. She was only eleven years older than me and her diagnosis at such a young age hit me hard. She was the first of the three sisters to get diagnosed.
I learned to make vegan Kimchi a few weeks ago. I was excited to learn how to make it, and even more excited to have my own stash of this spicy, gut healthy, side dish in my fridge!
Do you crave quiet? I mean absolute quiet with no radio, no talking, no music even. If you do it’s because you need it and your body is trying to tell you something.
So what if you’e not getting a solid 7 hours of good sleep every night? I have some wonderful news for you. If you can change this one thing in your life, you will be able to strengthen your immunity, live longer and live healthier. Isn’t that great incentive to try to improve your sleep habits?
I have been on cloud nine about sleep since January of this year! Yes! I’ve been so happy! I have not worked a night shift since December 2018 and i feel so much better. I didn’t think I was a morning person, and, oh was I wrong. Mornings are my favourite time of day now. If I get up at 5 am I’m happy and the whole day goes so much better. When I accomplish that one detail, the waking up part, it sets the tone for the rest of the day which is a positive one.
Do you love cheese? I used to love my cheese. I mean I really loved it. It was the one thing that I thought I couldn’t give up when I stopped eating animal products, when I started eating plant-based whole foods, when I became vegan. But. let me tell you there are so many alternatives that are so much healthier and have that satisfying cheese-like taste! Yes it’s true and most of them are nut cheeses!
I’ve taken some big steps and I’ve gone way beyond my comfort zone in the past few weeks! I have been thinking about it for a long time, but, just always thought I couldn’t do it or that it’s not for me. But, I have decided to go for it! I have decided to practice what I preach and to not let fear hold me back! I don’t want the fear of failure, worry of making mistakes, and my lack of time to be excuses any longer.
I spend a lot of time on YouTube now, more than even Netflix. I use YouTube for relaxation by watching various shows purely for entertainment, I use it as a tool for learning new things, plus I use it as a search engine for almost everything I want to find out about.
It was a simple, family wedding with a few close friends. Because the bride’s family couldn’t get here from South Korea on such short notice, we kept it simple, yet, beautiful. A wedding can be done in four weeks time! Decisions have to be made in rapid fire succession, but, at least this way you avoid those painstaking decisions that seem impossible to make! There’s no time for indecisiveness!
My plan was to become plant-based. Preferably whole food plant-based, that means to eat plants in their most unprocessed form, I wasn’t sure about being vegan! It sounded way too extreme for me! Vegans don’t have leather purses or wear leather shoes! I wasn’t about to throw out good clothing! I just wanted to save my brain from the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease! That was basically it.
